Roots and Wings
A Safe, Sacred, Brave Space for Talking About Death

Roots and Wings is a gathering of sacred beings with an interest in finding peace and comfort in walking with Death, be it the inevitable arrival of their own, or the journey they have taken/are taking with a loved one. We endeavor to transform our thoughts and fears about death and dying into a spiritual practice of reverence and grace.
The one guarantee we have when we are born is that we shall also die. Death is a beautiful transition from one form of existence to another, just like birth. When we are prepared for the inevitability of what comes next, all that remains is to live more fully.
Let’s discuss how we can show up for ourselves and others through this sacred rite of passage.
Melissa B is a member of 1U, the facilitator for the 1U Caregiver Support Group, and an End-of-Life Doula, with Holding Space Leadership training. She will host two monthly circles, with support from Katherine V and Judith Stein-Farrall, beginning in August.
The first circle will be at 5pm on third Wednesdays, and the second at 11am on fourth Tuesdays, currently scheduled in the peaceful and intimate setting of the Studio. These can now be found on the church calendar through November. Best timing and meeting space will be assessed and adjusted beyond that based on interest.
One need not commit to coming every month. If you are available and find that you are filled by these gatherings, we will be delighted to be in circle with you. We will be guided intuitively by the needs and interests of the group, so while there is no set curriculum, we may decide TOGETHER what we would like to discuss, work on, or experience when we next meet.
Roots and Wings is not intended to be a class, but an opportunity to go deep with one another about how we have walked with death so far, and how we might choose to do so going forward. Though this may not be filled with notebook learning, we guarantee that seeds will be planted that will nurture not only growth, but flourishing. We will share good books to read on the subject of dying and death (which may spark thoughts for discussion), but there will be no required reading.
Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome, be they members of the 1U community, or friends and neighbors. We are requesting an email RSVP each month, so we can gauge room size. Contact us here. Your questions, inquiries, and RSVPs are all welcome there.
We are excited to share this new offering with our beloved community, and we hope to see anyone there who would like to walk this path with us. As we say in Sunday Worship… your WHOLE self is welcome here.
