The Retired UU Men (RUUM) is a group of mostly retired men from 1U that usually meet twice a month for the following purposes:

  • Fellowship and discussion
  • Social activities
  • Cultural activities
  • Service to 1U

What We Do

We are primarily a social group. For the retired or nearly retired men, RUUM offers a connection with similar members who are available for weekday activities.

We hold a “business” meeting and participate in a social event each month. Our social events have included an eco boat ride on the St. John’s River, a visit to the Apopka Wildlife Drive, a tour of an Amazon Fulfillment Center, a craft brewery tour, miniature golf, and shuffleboard. Almost anything with enough member interest is a candidate! And, if a venue has enough capacity, we often invite spouses, partners, and friends.

Our service to 1U has included participation in church campus clean-up days, helping at food banks, and helping at after-school programs. Our most visible endeavor has been our conduct of an entire Sunday Service, typically, once a year.

When We Meet

We hold a hybrid luncheon meeting on the first Wednesday each the month from 11:30am to about 1:00pm. We check-in, plan social events, and discuss topics of interest. We meet again, for our social event, typically around the third Wednesday of the month. Meetings are announced via our or

How to Join

Most of our members come from 1U, but you do not have to be a church member to join. Time commitments are entirely up to you. There is no attendance or participation requirement. (We are retired!) Email our chair at ruum@orlandouu.org for more info.
