Title: “The Lost Art of Sabbath Keeping”

One of the oldest religious observances in Western culture is the Sabbath, a day set aside in Judaism and later in Christianity for rest and prayer. Over many centuries, observance of the Sabbath has both evolved and eroded with changing cultural and societal norms. Given the pressures of today’s non-stop global economy, a full day of rest may not be viable for most of us. Yet the practice of sabbath keeping offers many blessings of spiritual renewal and sacred connection. How might we preserve those blessings in contemporary life? What might a practice of sabbath keeping look like for today’s Unitarian Universalists?
