The Board of Trustees (BOT) is comprised of elected congregation members who serve as the decision-making body which sets the general direction of the Congregation. The minister is a non-voting member. The Board is responsible for mission & vision, policy making, personnel and financial management, with input from staff and the congregation. The Board officers (President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Past-President, and Minister) compromise the Board Executive committee. They meet and set the agenda for Board meetings on the first Monday of the month. The full Board meets on the second Monday of each month. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to approach any of us. We're here to serve you! You can also reach the group as a whole at

As an educator for 41 years, my "new year" always occurred in August, when the school began again. New pencils, notebooks, loose-leaf paper, ballpoint pens, and NEW BOOKS!!! How I loved the sight and smell of all of my school supplies, and my books, and how I looked forward to using them all. As we begin a new church year, and a new church school year, I want to welcome and thank all of our teachers, from our new minister, Rev. Kathy, to our church school teachers and our Adult RE teachers. You will serve us tremendously in the coming year, and I thank you for all of us...IN ADVANCE!!! |

BOT Highlights- July 2010 By Cat Rigby Welcome to a new church year! Although this was the first meeting of the new church year, a lot of things were covered. It is our practice to take turns writing up “Board Highlights” for the church website so members can keep up with what’s new. As always, any member is welcome to attend either BOT Exec meetings or BOT meetings as observers. |

Welcome, Reverend Kathy Schmitz!
A big and hearty First Unitarian welcome to our new minister, Reverend Kathy Schmitz! We are thrilled to meet you and look forward to many years of productive development under your ministry, Kathy. Years from now, we will be looking back at your beginning at First Unitarian and say, “We remember that watershed time!”
Reverend Kathy’s first day here will be August 15th, and her first day in the pulpit will be August 22nd. What a journey toward Reverend Kathy’s selection and arrival it has been. Many, many, many thanks again to our Search Committee for their intensive and essential efforts. Our church simply would not be where we are today without your efforts.

President's Column - July 2010
Commencement and Summer As I write this column for the July ORACLE, it's June again ... a time of commencements and farewells and bittersweet joy. Like Janus, the Roman god of portals and new beginnings, commencement always looks both back and forward, but leans to the future. And so, too, our Beloved Community looks back to our past and values it immensely, but joyously sees our future complete with high hopes and passionate intentions. |

Board of Trustees Meeting Summary June 14, 2010 The board meeting opened promptly at 7:00. After an inspirational reading by Cindy Schlier the members of the board and the search committee checked in. The board approved the slate of committee chairs for the 2010-2011 church year submitted by the Leadership Committee. The board approved using $695 from the BOT Discretionary Fund to assist Dave Shine, Linda Shine, and Alisha Kearns in attending the Southern Unitarian Universalist Leadership Experience at The Mountain in August. After a break where Kathy Homblette served root beer floats, the board reviewed the numerous goals we established at the beginning of the 2009-2010 church year, each giving our thoughts on how well we did and where we need to focus in the upcoming church year. The meeting concluded with each board member briefly given stating how being a BOT member for the past year has affected them. The meeting ended at approximately 9:15. |
