Adoption Task Force

Adoption Task Force

"Children are one third of our population and all of our future."

The Transforming the World Covenant Group formed late in 2008 with three goals:

  • Define and develop one or more social action projects that would examine and address the root causes of social injustice in our community.
  • Select projects with the potential to enable a small group of people working together to make a significant difference.
  • Encourage support and participation from the congregation with in-depth research and thoughtful education programs about the projects we select.

After much deliberation, we selected topics related to urgent needs of children, and we changed our name to the KIN Covenant Group. The Workshop and Sunday Seminars summarized below represent KIN’s first action toward transforming the world. Our programs were well attended and many people were interested in the issues.

KIN’s concern for foster children developed into the Guarantor Project - A Better Family Alternative. Its design and feasibility are currently being reviewed.

KIN’s concern for adoptable children had a clear path - education about the adoption ban and support for the repeal of the adoption ban.

To that end the Adoption Task Force was formed to present an Immediate Witness Statement to the congregation. The Task Force has started to network among the Unitarian Universalist congregations in Florida so those who support a change in this law can work together.  Please visit our adoption blog!

Kids in Need (KIN) - Jan 2010

THE GUARANTOR PROJECT- A BETTER FAMILY ALTERNATIVE

There are many very fine foster families caring for Florida's neglected, abused, and abandoned children. But not nearly enough. A disturbing number of foster children simply do not make it to a fulfilling and responsible adulthood. We are working on a very different system for providing the critical care and nurture these kids need. We hope to put together another way of organizing and doing foster family care.
