The Alliance

The Alliance

The Alliance is an affinity group affiliated with the Outreach Network. It is our oldest group and has been in existence almost as long as First Unitarian itself!

Its main project is the "Continuing Bazaar" thrift store located at First Unitarian's Gore Hall.  You may shop Tuesdays during the Alliance meeting and Sundays after the service. We also hold a Christmas Boutique each December and a Yard Sale each spring.

Proceeds from the store go to local charities that the Alliance supports.

MEETINGS

The Alliance meets each Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM in Gore Hall to sort donated items and plan activities. (The meeting at large is at Noon.) Our general pattern is

  • 1st Tuesday of the month the Alliance Board meets in the library before the meeting at large.
  • 2nd Tuesday is potluck lunch or we make plans to dine out. (The rest of the time is BYO.)
  • 3rd Tuesdays we gather in the kitchen first thing in the morning to make sandwiches for the homeless.
  • 4th Tuesdays and 5th Tuesdays may have a speaker of note.

Of course, each month things may vary slightly.  Please check the current monthly Alliance article below for schedule details.

HOW TO JOIN

Most of our members are from both First Unitarian and University Unitarian but you do not have to be a church member to join. Everyone of all ages is welcome to join in body or spirit.  Some are able to come each Tuesday to sort each week. Some only can come out to help with the special rummage sales each semester. Others are not able to come, but still send their annual membership dues in support of the Alliance's work. See our treasurer for dues information.

Got Junque?!! -Sep 2011

Got Junque?!!

We are in the process of collecting donated items for the church's annual rummage sale to beheld on Friday & Saturday, Oct. 28 & 29 in Gore Hall. That means we need your "junque"!! It's time to start cleaning out the garage and all those drawers and closets that filled up since last year (clothes, books, jewelry, bric-a-brac, dishes, pots & pans, etc.). We'll take most everything except large furniture, computers, and printers. Reminder: We need junque that is clean, in working order, and includes all its pieces and parts.

If you have items to donate, please drop them off:

- Either on Sundays during Social Hour in the Gore Hall storeroom (ask Eva Brinson of the Alliance if you're not sure where to put your items),

- Or during the week from 8:00am to 2:00pm (call the church office beforehand to make sure someone is there to let you in).

This sale could not happen without all the wonderful "junque" that comes from everyone's closets, garages, and attics.

If you just have a question about the sale, contact Amy at the church office ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it).

The Alliance - Sep 2011

The Alliance

The Alliance is excited to be part of the First Unitarian Centennial celebration. Our goal is to incorporate the number 100 in our projects and contributions for this fiscal year.

Our 2011-2012 membership is 75 members strong. You were very generous, so the amount-over-dues match was $1,150.Our new challenge is to reach 100 members in the next few months. Dues are $10, and we know you will help us.

In August, we traditionally give Payless Shoes gift cards to the children at the Homeless Coalition. This year we appropriated $1,800 to buy 100 gift cards.

Keep watching for the next "100 project."
