Living the 7th: Green Team in June
Living the 7th: Green Team in June

Thank you all for a wonderful two years! The natural end of my Green Chair-ship is at the end of June. I've been invited to volunteer at UU Ministry for Earth and accepted. I'm excited about my new green adventures “abroad” on the national level and look forward to continuing to serve here at the home campus as a regular Green Team Member.

Our last recap meeting of the year is on June 10th. Existing members will be reviewing what we did well and where we could improve and getting a sense for next year's Green calendar. If you have ideas, plan to play on Green Team next year, or would like to chair or join – come join us after church on June 10 in Room 9 at 12:45pm.

It's been a fun run and a real pleasure serving you as your Green Chair!

“The Vanishing of Bees”

Honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, literally vanishing from their hives. Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, this phenomenon has brought beekeepers to crisis in an industry responsible for producing apples, broccoli, watermelon, onions, cherries, and a hundred other fruits and vegetables. Commercial honeybee operations pollinate crops that make up one out of every three bites of food on our tables.

The Vanishing of Bees follows commercial beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes as they strive to keep their bees healthy and fulfill pollination contracts across the U.S. The film explores the struggles they face as the two friends plead their case on Capital Hill and travel across the Pacific Ocean in the quest to protect their honeybees

Plan Ahead

Quilt Field Trip? Let us know if you are interested in a group tour of the Lake Apopka Memorial Quilt! (We've worked several times with the Farmworker Association to bring the Apopka area into greater awareness.
Support Farmworkers! Recently, Governor Rick Scott used his line-item veto to cut $500,000 from the state budget that would have helped the former farmworkers on Lake Apopka and the other people in their community. After years of being neglected, ignored, and 'invisible', this veto of such a small amount of money is a deep disappointment. We are asking our friends and allies to send letters to Governor Scott in opposition to his veto and in support of the farmworkers who fed us all and who paid for it with their health.
