KIN - NOW . . . WHAT?

November 15 - Hiett Library - 9:30 a.m

Foster Children  ++ Children of Homeless Families  ++   GLBT adoption advocacy

During this KINship month . . .

KIN and 60 enthusiastic participants at Rev Gilbert's Workshop, Seminars, and Talk-Backs have been looking at what we can DO. Experts have been advising us. We have questioned and listened carefully. All of us know a lot more than we did. One thing we learned:  We need help!

At  this  NOW . . . WHAT?  KINship Seminar, the KINfolk will:

  1. Present action plans that we think can be done by people like us to help these kids to have a better chance in life.
  2. Offer low-key opportunities to join in our efforts.

For the past 18 months the group that came to call itself "KIN" (for Kids In Need) has been preparing to take the field against systems and conditions that cause young people to be deprived of the safety and nurturing they need to grow up into a responsible and fulfilling adulthood. We have narrowed our focus to:

  • Kids whose families are unable to provide a safe nurturing experience to the extent that they need to become wards of the people.
  • Kids whose families have lost their homes and have no safe, dependable shelter.
  • Kids who need to be adopted, but cannot due in part to the State of Florida's law that prevents responsible adults from adoption by virtue of their sexual orientation.

And we know that . . .        "We Can Do It!"       Rosie the Riveter (1942)
