Ministerial Search Committee

The Leadership Committee soon will be launching its search for the search committee -- the members who will evaluate candidates for our new settled minister. Watch for details on our church website about how to apply for one of the seven positions on the committee.

Here's some additional information from the UUA about qualifications for search committee members and how the committee operates:

Members should promise to attend every meeting, and be able and willing to give about 250–400 hours over the coming year (average of 5–7 hours/week)

All members of the search committee should be:

  • Known and respected by others in the congregation
  • More strongly committed to the congregation as a whole than to any subgroup
  • Pledged to conduct a search that is fair and nondiscriminatory with respect to race, color, disability, sex, sexual orientation, age, and national origin
  • Committed to maintain confidentiality and to seek consensus
  • Capable of both self-assertion and compromise
  • Well suited to teamwork

The committee should:

  • Be balanced by sex, age, interests, and tenure of membership to reflect the diversity of the congregation.
  • Represent major areas of church life such as religious education, social action, property management, finance, and music
  • Be balanced by attributes: organizational ability, broad theological awareness, computer skills
  • Not include paid members of the church staff or Board members

Please contact any of the members of the Leadership Committee if you have questions about the search committee search. They are Di Silkwood, Linda Shine, Joyce Walker, Bob Leger, and Mary Ann Horne.
