Worship Services - May 2010

10:45am Sundays in Our Sanctuary

Sunday, May 2 | Candidating Week Service #2

Following the worship service, we will have a Congregational Meeting to vote to call Reverend Kathryn Schmitz to be our minister. All members of record are expected to attend.

Sunday, May 9 | "The Purpose of the Church Part 2: Saving the World"

Last month I introduced the practice of Appreciate Inquiry with a provocative proposition about the nature of our UU congregation. I said that the purpose of the church is to save our lives. This month I offer a second provocative proposition: the purpose of our congregation is to save the world. We will honor Mother's Day as well.

Sunday, May 16 | "The Fifth Smooth Stone: The Organization of Power and the Power of Organization"

The final sermon in the five-month series on the foundational ideas of Unitarian Universalism looks at our uneasy relationship to power and suggests that we could be more effective in fulfilling our mission if we were to claim our power and organize ourselves to exercise it. This service will feature the official decommissioning of the Transition Team and the Search Committee. We will Share the Plate with the Central Florida Women's Emergency Fund.

Sunday, May 23 | Children's Religious Education Sunday: A Vibrant and Joy-Filled Glimpse into the Future of Our UU Faith

From understanding the Rainforests to analyzing the spiritual themes in films and plays, we have spent the year learning about what it means to be Unitarian Universalist, and now we want to share our most significant experiences with you and express our gratitude for the support of this beloved community.

Sunday, May 30 | "Glory, Glory"

On this Memorial Day weekend we will look at the life of Unitarian Julia Ward Howe who went from being the author of the Battle Hymn of the Republic to being a peace advocate.
