Immokalee Workers - Nov 1

Nov 1: Meet the CIW and Publix Picket!

“Ethical Eating” includes supporting farmers and farm worker rights.

We already presented the "fair food draft" at the congregational meeting in October in response to the UUA call.  (We will be voting on this at the Feb Congregational meeting.  Coalition of Immokalee Workers is also our Feb Share the Plate.)

But we aren't waiting til February to start acting locally for farm workers!

In a collaborative justice project, both First Unitarian and University Unitarian will  be hosting guests from Coalition of Immokalee Workers at each church on Nov 1.

You can meet our CIW guests in Adult RE at 9:30 AM in Room 9 and learn about the life of a Florida tomato picker and tips for the picket that afternoon.

They will have an info table in Social Hour after the service and we invite you to make them feel welcome by sharing your vegetarian and vegan yummies as we shift gears from appearing at VegFest last week and into appearing at Publix this week!

(Tip jar goes toward renewing our congregational membership to UU Ministry for Earth!)

After Social Hour, we meet members of our sister church over the Publix on Shine and Colonial for a peaceful info picket to raise awareness for Coalition of Immokalee Workers.

Please join us in support of farm worker rights and plan to gather at Publix at Colonial Town at 2:30 PM! You may leave your car at church and walk over.
