Worship Services - July 2008

Orders of Service for July 2008

We'll see you there!

July 6 Inter-Dependence Day

This service will focus on redefining Independence Day and the concept of “independence” within the framework of our seventh Unitarian Universalist principle.

The service will be led by Gladys Smith-Mangan, Worship Associate.

July 13 “Straight Parent, Gay Son - Discovering Stephan”

Charles Suhor will describe the richly complex relationships with his late son, Stephan. He gathered and edited Stephan’s writings for a book titled The Book of Rude and Other Outrages: A Queer Self-Portrait. The unfolding of Stephan’s awareness and his interactions with the family and society will be discussed. This service will be led by our guest speaker, Charles Suhor.

July 20  "Unwelcome and Necessary Changes"
Most changes are difficult, but some are viewed as unwelcome even though they might be necessary.  Using Constantine Cavafy's poem, "Expecting the Barbarians," we will examine these most dreaded changes.  This service will be led by Russ Hiett, Worship Associate.

July 27 Living an Unreasonable and Creative Life - Our Unitarian Obligation.

Within the reasonable world we live in, Unitarians stand out as the creative and unreasonable alternatives. Christine Haskins, long-time member and Creative Facilitator, will talk about how Unitarian Universalism prompts us to be more creative -and even unreasonable - in our every day lives.
