Religious Education Update June 2008

Religious Education Update

Greetings Members and Friends of First Unitarian

As our 2007–2008 Religious Education year draws to a close, I am enormously grateful to our many volunteers who joyfully gave of their time and energy to make this year so very successful.

Many Thanks

Thank you to all the teachers and teacher assistants who creatively shared our UU heritage with our children and youth last Fall.
Thank you to our OWL teachers who trained and prepared for this intensive and important program.
Thank you to our amazing Religious Education Committee for working diligently behind the scenes to provide structure and continuity to our programs and who also organized our special events and parties.
Thank you to those committee members who also assisted with our Seven Principles Quilting Class.
Thank you also to our many special guests who shared with us their personal commitment to our principles.
A very warm thank you to all the parents who showed their commitment to our church and to our future by getting up early on Sunday mornings and bringing their children and youth to RE.
Thank you also to those children and youth for enthusiastically participating and teaching us as we taught them.
Extra, extra thanks to those amazing youth (you know who you are) who made a special effort to nurture their LRE and remind her to breathe.
And a very special thank you to each and every one of you who, in spite of these tough economic times, made a pledge to continue financially supporting our church. I am humbled and grateful for your sacrifice.
I also want to thank the Board of Trustees for the tough choices they had to make with next year’s budget. I want to assure everyone that we in RE are prepared to tighten our proverbial belts, get creative, and make sure that our leadership and our programs continue to be of the high quality we have all come to expect.

 Announcements

I am very pleased to announce that I have already had six of this year’s teachers come up to me and enthusiastically tell me that they want to teach again next year…WOW! (spread the word; RE is fun)  I also want to announce that we are introducing a brand new Summer program: Seventh Principle Chalice Camp, which is a collaborative effort between RE and the Green Team to be held June 16–20 from 11:00am to 3:00 pm, vegan lunch included. The cost is $7 a day or $30 for all five days — plus we ask each family to made a food donation for lunch or snacks. We have lots of yummy and inexpensive suggestions. All ages are welcome, but children under 5 need an adult to accompany them. Our activities will include: taking an eco-tour of our campus, making an organic garden plot, planting trees in the playground, building an earthworm farm, creating sun-paint T-shirts and grocery sacks, painting an outdoor mural, and celebrating Mother Earth in song and dance.
